Our Mission

BYUIsports.com is dedicated to remembering the proud tradition of Ricks College athletics and exploring the possibilities of bringing intercollegiate sports back to BYU–Idaho. For more than 80 years, the Vikings built a legacy of national championships, All-Americans, and unforgettable moments that united students, alumni, and the Rexburg community. Although varsity athletics were discontinued when Ricks became BYU–Idaho in 2000, the spirit of competition and the pride of Viking sports continue to live on.

This site exists to preserve that history while sparking meaningful conversation about the future. We aim to highlight how athletics could once again enrich student life, strengthen community spirit, and shape the identity of BYU–Idaho.

Our Team

We are a collective of college athletics professionals with deep personal and professional ties to Rexburg. Many of us are Ricks College or BYU–Idaho alumni, and several once competed as Viking student-athletes. Today, we serve as athletic directors, compliance officers, economists, professors, and administrators at colleges and universities across the country. Collectively, we bring decades of experience in intercollegiate athletics, with firsthand knowledge of how athletic programs are built, governed, and sustained.

We also carry unique perspective. Some of us were involved in the discussions surrounding the elimination of intercollegiate athletics at BYU–Idaho, and others have remained close to conversations about their possible return. We know the institutional barriers, but we also understand the opportunities. That mix of personal history and professional expertise drives our commitment to this project.

Our Goal

Our purpose is not simply nostalgia. It is to combine historical memory with professional insight to keep the conversation alive about athletics at BYU–Idaho. Through articles, research, and community dialogue, we aim to show how a varsity sports program could align with the university’s mission while enriching the student experience and honoring the legacy of Ricks College.
